Henricus Rol was a son of Cornelis Rol (1877-1963), who was also a graphic artist. Henricus was a pupil of his father. He received his further training at the academy of fine arts in The Hague, including Henk Meijer. He painted (miniature) portraits, still lifes and flowers. He is also a restorer of paintings.

He is - like his father - best known as one of the creators of the pictures for the Verkade albums, including some with text by Jac. P. Thijsse. He drew with pen and watercoloured images for ‘De Bloemen en haar Vrienden’ (1934), ‘Omgang met planten’ and ‘Eik en beuk’ (1995). He also painted for the albums ‘Dierenleven in Artis’ (1939), ‘Apen en hoefdieren in Artis’ (1940) and ‘Vogels in Artis’ (1988), and for the album ‘Hans de Torenkraai’ (1935). For the albums ‘Hans de Torenkraai’ and ‘Vogels in Artis’ he collaborated with his father.

Rol was a great storyteller and lived and worked in Amsterdam, The Hague and Voorburg and lived in Noorden near Nieuwkoop for a long time, where he died at an old age.
