Rare scissor lamp, Kaiser Idell Original, Model 6718. Designed in 1931, manufactured in 1936.
With the asymmetrical lamp shade and the iconic ball joint, a highly sought-after design classic. Especially original ones such as this (*).
Dell was actually a silversmith at Bauhaus, the world-famous Academy of Art & Architecture in Weimar.
The Idell brand is on the socket cap. Even marked with the (aluminium) brand of distributor Hala. So: the designer, the manufacturer, and the distributor. Truly nowhere to be found.
As a wall light or on a desk or cupboard. The base is a part of an old cypress tree. Saved from the firewood and waxed with beeswax.
Lamp has a beautiful patina and is entirely original. Cleaned and oiled. Switch on the lamp shade still works fine. Made of bakelite, as is the lamp socket.
The smaller base (part of a railway sleeper, see the photos) is included.
(*) Originating from the laboratory of the old Willem Smit Fabriek Nijmegen and supplied by the then leading lighting brand Hala in Zeist.
