Auguste Lepère was a French painter and etcher.
Lepère started his artistic education at the age of 13 in the Paris studio of the engraver Joseph Burn-Smeeton.
By the mid-1870s, Lepére had become a renowned graphic artist of his time.
In his etchings and woodcuts, Lepére mainly focused on everyday life.
Today, he is known for his innovations, such as the use of coloured paper, or the combination of etching and woodcuts within the same print. The last years of Auguste Lepére’s life were dedicated exclusively to woodcuts.
