Carl Gustav Calwer (*1821 in Stuttgart; † 1874 in Stuttgart-Berg) was a German forester, entomologist and ornithologist.
This book, which was first published in 1858, came out in six updated editions until 1916. The first edition was the result of the collaboration with the zoologist and physician Prof. Dr. Gustav Jäger, who worked on this edition after Calwers death in 1874. Until today more than 1000 beetle drawings from the book are in use.
