Strong impression, good condition. At the backside of the sheet in the corners remains of former tipping on an album sheet.

We recognize: A. Saturn; B. Rhea; C. Jupiter; D. Juno; E. Mercury; F. symbol of Mercury; G. Sleep; H. Minerva; I. fertility symbols; L. Proserpina; M. Ceres; N. Triptolemus; O. a fertility symbol; P. Venus Basilissa; Q. Vulcan.

This is an etching by Romeyn de Hooghe published in 'Hieroglyphica of merkbeelden der oude volkeren' (Amsterdam: Joris van der Woude, 1735).
It is a good example of his genius etching technique

Romeyn de Hooghe (1645 - 1708)
Painter, sculptor, medal maker, goldsmith, etcher, and publisher. Born in Amsterdam, a nephew of the painter Pieter de Hoogh. In 1668 in Paris, from 1687 in Haarlem. Opened drawing school in 1688. Propagandist for William of Orange. He was a important renewer of pictural art revolting against the dull French style of his period.
