Leon Sarteel (Belgium 1882-1942), lived and worked in Ghent, where his studio apartment can still be visited, more info about the artist is still extensively available on the internet.
The sculpture on offer is considered to be one of the great successes of Sarteel, the name of the artist stands on the foot as well as the bronze foundry Vindevogel. Ghent has various sculptures cast by him.
