Jacques de Gheyn II (Workshop of)
New Hollstein (Dutch & Flemish) 109 (The De Gheyn family)
The circular form works very well with this nice late renaissance print. De Gheyn of course knew the format from his education as a glass painter.
Jacques de Gheyn II (publisher/printer; painter/draughtsman; Dutch; ; 1565 - 1629)
Draughtsman, engraver and publisher; born in Antwerp, his father being a glass-painter and print dealer. Trained with Goltzius in Haarlem 1585-90; then settled in Amsterdam; in 1592 de Gheyn began to publish prints himself, some after his own designs but still many after van Mander; like Goltzius, he gave up printmaking and publishing to paint in 1600. Master of Zacharias Dolendo.
