Vertical tangka, tempera on canvas.
Three heads (yellow, white and black) and eight arms Ushnishavijaya, sitting in padmasana on a lotus in front of the mandorla.
The peaceful frontal face is topped by the urna, the two other faces slightly irritated.
She holds in her four right hands, from top to bottom :
• A small buddha
• The arrow (sara)
• The third hand is folded on her chest and holds the double vajra (dorje)
• The fourth and lower hand rests on her right knee in varana mudra
She holds in her four left hands, from bottom to top :
• The lower hand, in Dhyana mudra, is holding the Treasure Vase
• The one above is holding a bow
• The next one is folded over her chest holding the lasso
• The upper one is in abhaya mudra
Ushnishavijaya is from the family of buddha Vairocana. With the Buddha Amitayus and the white Tara, they constitute the three deities symbolizing long life.
Each face is topped by the urna as to emphasize the vision given by transcendental wisdom. Tangkas representing Ushnishavijaya were often painted as a gift to a lama or a dignitary as a long life wish.
