This is a beautiful, rare, genuine Japanese Buddhist antique from the late 19th century, corresponding to the Edo period (江戸時代 Edo jidai). This is a laquered wood and gold gilt, Amida Nyorai Buddha.
Originally part of an old Japanese family shrine, from a old rural estate sell, imported directly from Japan by me. This statue is a wonderful connection to a bygone Era of craftsmenship and life style in pre Industrial Japan.
The Buddha has a floral manora symbolizing his radiant aura behind him. He wears the robes and hair style of a Buddha. His face is serene and deeply calming.
A wonderful statue for the collector, altar, or an impressive interior design statement.
Good. Patina, wear, small scratches, fading, dust. Discolouration, loss, and fading of gold gilt and laquer, all usual for age/wear. Loss of finger tips on left hand, repairs/restoration to right hand. Slight loss of robe details on right lower arm.
