View-Master 3-reel packet "The Dog Family" with number 881-ABC. The images have copyrights from 1948-1957 and come from the View-Master collection of those days.
It is a truly unique View-Master packet that was only released in a very small edition as a test for the newly developed series "Fun with Pets" (see the scanned information). At the bottom of the booklet is printed: "NOTE: This book is in sample form and not for resale" (so without illustrations and covers).
The packet offered here comes from the old archives of the former Belgian View-Master factory, which compiled its own packet from the Dogs and the Cats packet: "B620, Dogs and Cats". Therefore, there is very limited writing on some pages in this test packet (see the pictures; the other pages are still flawless).
The three reels are like new. Almost all flat images. No discolourations. No blistering.
This is a summary of the story:
In 1957 Sawyer's conducted serious market research for an audiovisual study set called "Fun with Pets". It was an attempt to combine watching, listening and reading in an integrated whole: 3-d reels, film strip, record and book. See the scanned information. Some titles were released as a test and were sent to potential customers. A comprehensive evaluation form was attached.
Ultimately, the project was not continued, and only a few copies of these test packets have been preserved. These reels were not released in any other way as a packet by View-Master, except for B620. So, essentially it concerns a unique packet!
