This vase is thought to be from Central or South America. It is burnished pottery, which means that it has been polished to create a shiny black surface without using a glaze.
The vase has a shape of a shaman faces, smiling and angry, finely sculpted. Pots, vases resembling human figures were common throughout Central and South America, sometimes as effigies or funerary urns to be buried to accompany the deceased.
Some discolouration and a crack to one side, please see the photos, otherwise in a good condition. Height 26cm, width 16.5cm, depth 10cm
