This Scroll has a magnificent painting. Signature reads: Kishi Renzan (1805-59).
There is no proof it was painted by the famous painter, so it is sold as a 19th century copy after him.
Renzan was born in 1805 and lived in Kyoto. He was adopted into the great Kishi family and trained in the studio of Kishi Ganku.
Part of the second generation of the famous Kishi school in Kyoto, Renzan had the greatest reputation in Japan, rising to some importance in Kyoto
His works are in the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Brooklyn Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the British Museum and every important collection in Japan.
In this energetic painting Renzan shows a powerful Tiger with a fierce Dragon emerging in the clouds above him.
He painted a distinctive striped coat of his Tigers with muscular body.
Condition is very good, no damage to mention, scroll ends are old cattle bone with nice patination.
