Antique, very old, late 19th century or early 20th century. Top part of a wooden STAFF, with a carved HEAD or STYLIZED HEAD, with leather and copper nails, from the BAOULE, from Ivory Coast.
Special African collectable which is very old, with excellent provenance.
Provenance: bought around 1924-1936 by the WHITE FATHERS from Africa to the Netherlands.
Then included in the Museum of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. See collection number C-489.
Subsequently included around 1960 in the collection of Huize Sint Gerlach in Cadier en Keer, near Maastricht, the Netherlands.
Purchased by the current seller in 2006 when the collection of this Paters Care Center was moved.
Warm, soft patina because of tribal use. Feels well used. With good details. Copper nail in the right eye. Nail in the left eye is missing. Bottom part of the staff is sawn.
Recommended for collectors of real and old African art.
