John Hall THORPE (Victoria 1874 - Bexhill-on-Sea 1947).
John Hall Thorpe was born in 1874 in Victoria, Australia. He came into contact with woodcut art in the early 1890s, when he worked as an illustrator and co-worker at the Sydney Mail. He studied art both in Sydney as well as Heatherlys. After moving to London in 1902, he began making woodcut art in 1918, for which he gained international recognition in the 1920s and 1930s.
