Biography of Mircea Nicolau (Brăila, Romania, 1932)

Set designer, painter, Romanian graphic designer. recognized by his style, his prodigious imagination and his prolific activity dedicated in priority, between 1968 and 1986, to the puppet theatre of Galaţi, today called Gulliver.

he signs his first shows at the theatre notara (dramatic theatre) of Bucharest. between 1986 and 1988, he made the stage design of the shows directed by Cristian cucumber in the ţăndărică, and left Romania in 1988 to go to Germany where he dedicated himself to painting. among his scenographies: La fillette qui cherche une chanson (the girl who is looking for a song) by Alecu Popovici, in Plovdiv, in Bulgaria, by Ştefan Lenkisch, Turandot (1972), Prometeo (1973), The Blue Bird, The Lighter, directed by Traian Ghiţescu-Ciurea, Harap Alb, The Rose and The Ring, directed by Cristian Pepino, Night of Carnival, of Hans Sachs, in Magdeburg, led by Margareta Niculescu.

Mircea Nicolau participated in the creation of three shows in ladies. He received the special prize for the scenography by Sünziana and Pepelea in the Pif festival of Zagreb, in 1982, The Cold Heart (1982) and Adventures with red riding hood (1986), directed by Cristian Pepino. Created the characters and images of the series the adventures of the child by Ştefan Lenkisch for Swedish television. Mircea Nicolau participated in several scenography exhibitions in Bucharest, Prague, Havana and Novi Sad. In 1983, he receives the ATM prize (association of the people of theatre and music) for the scenographies of The Couronne des champs (a crown of the fields in Galaţi and the stations in Constanţa.
