On offer a very nice, original typewriter of the brand Oliver type No. 5
Standard Visible Writer.
An a-typical typewriter due to the type bars of the Oliver being bent in the shaped of an inverted "U" shape and resting in "towers" on the sides of the typewriter.
This makes it a unique piece with a high decorative value.
In beautiful and working condition.
The Oliver Typewriter Company was an American typewriter manufacturer headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The Oliver Typewriter was the first effective typewriter with "visible print", meaning that the text was visible for the typist when it was entered. Oliver typewriters were heavily marketed for home use, with the help of local distributors and selling on credit. Oliver produced between 1895 and 1928. The general design of Oliver typewriters remained largely unchanged throughout the company's entire history. The Olivers are "down strike" typewriters, which means that the type bars hit the plate (also called the roller) from above instead of from below ("up strike") or front the front ("front strike"). In contrast to the "up strike" method, which presses the text out of sight on the bottom of the glass plate, the "downstroke" is a "visible print" design, meaning that the entire page is visible to the typist while the text is being entered. The relatively larger striking power of the "down strike" design led to Olivers being preferred for special applications such as stencil cutting or "manifold" (copying using carbon paper). the "front strike" method, a competitive 'visible print' design, was patented around the same time (1889-91), but an effective machine that did not disturb the typist’s line of sight was not available until 1897, when about three years after the introduction of the Oliver No. 1 the Underwood No.1 appeared on the market.
