Description
Boîtes de voyage, Malle (2) - Géorgien - bois et cuir de camphre - Première moitié du XIXe siècle
Europe

Two beautiful 19th century travel boxes of camphor wood, lined with black leather and brass bands. Origin Europe, circa 1830. Dimensions 27 x 60 x 33 cm and is in a good condition.x 74 x 39 cm. These boxes were mainly used by noble families for transportation from castle to castle. Camphor wood ensures no infestation with pests. They are in an old, chic, condition with the necessary traces of wear, not so strange, considering the purpose for which they are made. One box has a broken hinge and is missing a handle, also some dents in the copper. Both backsides show tears in the leather. They are pretty heavy thereby shipping will be more expensive than normal. On the lid of the largest are two remnants of labels which are fixed with red wax, also the initials E.B. can be found on the box. In brass knots. Maybe Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin...
