Emile Dropsy resigned from the profession of his ancestors, and learned to work as a metals engraver in Lemoine, with headquarters in Paris Quai Jemmapes, while taking drawing classes.
Having become an excellent engraver, he established himself. Then, at the age of thirty, the age in which one completes studies, he models with bravery the medals under the direction of Ferdinand Levillain. As he had to earn a living and the circumstances allowed him to sell religious medals, he devoted many years to this type of medals, trying to finish them well and make them likeable, according to the taste of the purchasing clients.
However, in moments of freedom, working for his own happiness, he executed works that were exhibited around 1900 to French artists.
It is in these works that the artist has given the best of himself.
He took religious themes, but to make them true works of art, and no longer souvenir - medals.
His religious inspired works keep a simplicity, a wit, which rarely have such types of works by other artists.
His human figures are natural. He did not profess any theory, he had no principles, but he gave rein to his sensitivity and only cared about being honest, far from leading his emotions.
