This rug was knotted in the city Isfahan, in the south-west of Persia. The rug is considered to be the most beautiful of contemporary Persian rugs. They are characterised by a high knot density, incredibly detailed patterns and high-quality materials.
Isfahan rugs are of excellent quality, made of soft kork wool (often with silk details or stitching) and a very tightly woven pile. The rugs woven in this city might well be the best and most valuable in the world. The most popular design is a central medallion, surrounded by grapevines or flowers, usually red, blue or indigo, on an ivory background. Other popular design elements and patterns are vases, gardens and tree-of-life designs, Shah Abbasi patterns and figurative elements. The inspiration for the rug design comes from traditional motifs and patterns, nature, poetry and the great poets, as well as the rich architectural history of the city.
Please take the time to study the rug in detail and enjoy this work of art.
